Press Release: SEAIR flies to Laoag

Southeast Asian Airlines, Inc. (SEAIR) has announced that it will start flying to its newest destination, Laoag, on April 4, 2013. Flights will originate from the Manila Domestic Airport or Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 4.

The northernmost city of Laoag is the capital of Ilocos Norte. Laoag means “light” in Ilocano and the city is nicknamed “Sunshine City” for its year-round sunny weather. Laoag has an interesting mix of tradition and modernity, reflecting Spanish and Ilocano heritage. Kalesas or horse carriages still cruise the streets of downtown Laoag, bustling as it is with numerous business establishments, as the city is also the center of trade and commerce in the region. For history buffs, must-see sites include the Museo Ilocos Norte, which houses prehistoric tools that were used for hunting and fishing by early settlers, and the Sinking Bell Tower of St. William’s Cathedral, the largest and tallest in the country at 45 meters. Gourmands can explore the city through partaking of popular local dishes like bagnet (crispy pork belly), longganisa (sweet sausage links), empanada (a deep fried pastry stuffed with longganisa), and the simple but tasty vegetable soup dinengdeng.

Laoag is also the best jump-off point to some of the most breath-taking sights and destinations in the north such as Kabigan Falls and Blue Lagoon Cove in Pagudpud; the windmills in Bangui; Paoay Lake National Park, UNESCO World Heritage Paoay Church, and the MalacaƱang of the North or Balay ti Amianan (former President Marcos's official residence in Ilocos Norte) in Paoay; Cape Bojeador in Burgos; and the Sand Dunes of La Paz.

SEAIR will offer daily Manila-Laoag flights scheduled at 1:00 p.m. and Laoag-Manila flights at 3:00 p.m. It uses new A319 and A320 aircraft, which can accommodate up to 180 passengers.

SEAIR is offering introductory fares to Laoag at PHP 699 for travel until June 30, 2013. Passengers must book their tickets via www.tigerairways.com to avail of the special rates until April 8, 2013.

SEAIR is a 40-percent-owned associate airline of Tiger Airways Holdings. SEAIR adopts Tiger Airways’ business model and offers value fares to domestic and international destinations within a five-hour flying radius of the Philippines.

Have you been to Laoag? Gosh... I wanna go there! ^__^

Let's go on a vacation, hubby! Our honeymoon is YEARS in the making! :D

Press Release: 7-Election Gulp® Polls Launches Anew In 7-Eleven Store Chains

Following the success achieved by the informal and unique 7-Election voting campaign through Gulp® cups in the 2010 presidential elections, convenience store giant 7-Eleven, locally licensed by Philippine Seven Corporation (PSC), is launching its 7-Election promo anew this March 20, 2013 for the upcoming senatorial race. 7-Election is a way for PSC to contribute to nation building efforts as it aims to promote voter awareness and participation through a fun and unique way of voting.

In the 2010 presidential race, the unscientific and unofficial 7-Election poll came very close to the actual election result, with President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III garnering 38 percent in the 7-Election Gulp® polls and 39 percent in the official election conducted nationwide by the Commission on Elections. The campaign earned for 7-Eleven awards both in the digital and advertising industries.

Customers may vote by purchasing any 16oz Gulp® beverage (from the selection Coke, Pepsi or Del Monte Gulp® drinks) featuring the three designs of the different senatorial coalitions. Available cup designs are the yellow cup representing Team PNoy, the orange cup representing United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and the white cup for independent candidates as well as smaller parties such as Ang Kapatiran, Bangon Muna, Democratic, Makabayan and Social Justice. Each purchase of a Gulp® drink in any of the cup designs counts as a vote for the respective parties. For the white cup featuring multiple parties, the barcode for the party of the customer’s choice will be scanned to accurately reflect the vote.

An extension of the 7-Election polls is the online voting, where customers may vote for individual candidates by visiting www.7-election.com.ph. No purchase is required to vote online, however users may only vote once, as in actual elections. Viewers can find the results of both the votes cast using both the Gulp® cups and the online polls. The campaign will make use of the #7Election hashtag online to tag all content relevant to the Gulp® polls as this is promoted through social media to push for voter awareness.

The beauty of the informal 7-Election polls is that it is transparent since all 7-Eleven stores will be able to track the sale the 7-Election Gulp® cups. Voting updates for the Gulp® cups and online polls shall be posted in leaderboards across all stores weekly.

Regular updates will be open to the public in the website, social media and via strategic LED billboards placements in key transit areas in Metro Manila. The final tally will be released on May 7, 2013.

Press Release: PLDT Triples Fiber Reach to Over 300 Residential Areas Nationwide

MANILA, Philippines, April 1, 2013 - Leading telecommunications firm PLDT is rapidly expanding its fiber-to-the-home network, bringing ultra-fast broadband connection to over 300 residential subdivisions all over the country.

“The fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband connection enables PLDT to offer customers triple play services that provide not just access for voice and data but also allow seamless streaming of high quality video,” said PLDT EVP and Head of Home Ariel Fermin.

Among the new areas now covered by FTTH are Laguna, Muntinlupa, and Quezon City in Luzon, Cebu in the Visayas, and Davao in Mindanao region.

PLDT initially rolled out FTTH to around 100 high-end subdivisions in Metro Manila under the service called Fibr which is PLDT Home’s most powerful broadband with speeds of up to 100Mbps. Apart from fiber-fast connection, customers will enjoy Hollywood blockbuster movies as part of their subscription.

The new FTTH areas include: Sta. Rosa Estate Phases 1 & 2 in Laguna; Southvale 1&2 and Palms Pointe in Muntinlupa; Manila Southwoods in Cavite; and White Plains and Tierra Pura in Quezon City. In Visayas and Mindanao, Fibr is now accessible in Cebu Royale Estate, Beverly Hills Subdivision, Pristina North, Bayswater Subdivision, Happy Homes, Ajoya Residences, Deca Baywalk, and Reldo Subdivision in Davao.

“Fibr readily connects Filipino homes with its ultra-fast speed and crystal clear, high-definition content,” said Fermin. “PLDT Fibr enables users to have a faster, multi-screen, multi-media experience by utilizing dedicated fiber optic cables that are not shared, allowing simultaneous high-speed browsing and high-definition video streaming.”

PLDT Head of Home Broadband Gary Dujali said PLDT is leading the adoption of fiber optic technology to help the Philippines align with other countries that already have ultra high-speed and advanced internet connections.

“With Fibr, subscribers can seamlessly stream blockbuster Hollywood movies, play lag-free online gaming, and adopt cloud computing,” said Dujali.

Accessible in various plans, Fibr is available in Plan 3500 with speed of up to 8Mbps; Plan 5800, up to 20Mbps; Plan 8800, up to 50Mbps; and Plan 20000, up to 100Mbps. These plans include free installation, free Fibr modem, and free PLDT WiFi Zone access with PLDT Telpad subscription.

Fermin noted that PLDT’s extensive 54,000 kilometers of fiber optic cables facilitate the efficiency of the company’s digital services such as Fibr, myDSL, and Telpad, bringing people, especially families closer, and establishing the strongest connections at home.

For more information about PLDT Fibr, visit http://fibr.pldthome.com.

Being a homebased online English teacher requires me to have a really good connection. I hope PLDT could   work harder in increasing the number of their FTTH areas and offer more affordable packages. =)

What are your thoughts about PLDT Fibr? =)

I think it is a breakthrough! =)
